Babies Don't Like Blue Anymore

This is where I would like to be. Just had breakfast with my dad, who drove 2 hours to buy lightbulbs, only to find that there weren't any. We went to the pub down the street, 4 hours early for the folk jam they do on Sundays. I have to say, veggie burgers are always too filling but I can never resist. Now I am sitting in complete melt-down mode on the kitchen arm chair, waiting for the vultures to arrive and carry off what is left of this wasted up body.
On the way home we were walking behind some guy who's t-shirt read: "I fucked Jesus STUPID" with a picture of a foetus hanging from a coat hanger. He was pretty cheerful considering.
The floor is paved with bottle caps from last night. Another reason for the vultures: had a pretty successful drinking party and for the first time, none of my actual friends were there. It was the acting crowd. This one guy stared at me in disbelief when I told him that I enjoy writing art history themed papers. Then he made off with Kat's straw hat with a big black bow. I believe there may have been some shot-gunning going on in the bathtub. All I know for sure is that I am going to make bread with the left overs.
On the menu for this evening: symphonies in the harbor, fire (works) in the sky.

Check this check this number 1 japanese town.

Just wanted to express some good hearted joy and be a girl and say that I just got roses from an Ontario boyfriend. This is the only place where I have two girls reading this.

Also, hit up the Filberg festival with jasmine yesterday. Nothing super cool, a lot of ceramics and felted jackets worth 700 dollars. Jasmine, I and her mom agreed that it was ridiculous. I think the highlights of the day was enjoying the sun, eating this amazing ice cream cone and spending at least 45 minutes, trying to figure out how to get to Cumberland and see the "ghost Japanese town", when really, it was just nothing except this one last standing house that was left from the original town, wooden stakes showing where everything use to be and this cool project they started. They planted something like 35 cherry blossom trees to represent the 35 families that were forced to evacuate and sent to the camps on the mainland during world war 2. The trees are still tiny, and apparently once they are mature, the branches will all be touching each other and everything will be connected. Cute huh?

Anyways, I'm going to go make lunch and make sure I can find my dress for the wedding the lovely marimba band is preforming at this afternoon. Hope the sun is treating you guys well.

Something in your chemistry

Checkout this cliff. I have to go back there tomorrow.

I'm listening to a bunch of random music one of the guys loaded onto my computer, eating an apple, and drinking tea. Apparently, gangster rap is the flavour of the week. I had a whole bunch of stuff to say but now I can't remember any of it. Some of the people from my pre-camp sampling crew were on the radio today and said nice things. It was good to hear their voices.

Emma, ignore those little nagging voices, or at least politely listen and dismiss them at the closest possible opportunity. You are going places, my dear. Good places.

I HAVE to do laundry sometime this week. Don't let me forget.

I'll Bet You Do This All The Time

Glorious weather, glorious chocolate almond milk in the cup on the counter. Not a lot to report around here. I am going to watch my friend from work's boyfriend ponce around in Hamlet style tights this evening. It's the Vic Shakespeare Fest up at Camosun en plein air.
Yesterday morning I was assured that there is plenty for art historians to do in this world by a woman that would know all about these things. It's funny how much I have lost focus over the summer, all the regular fears have been creeping in slowly. Especially after my aunt and uncle (siblings) laughed at my major before going back to wrestling on the couch. I guess it's best not to listen to the non-believers out there, since the majority of them have never been to university anyway. Anyway this woman has made my future seem brighter and to celebrate I am going over to the ol' Lansdowne Middle School to play soccer with my brother and his gang of wily engineers.
I will leave you with this image though.

This is what I just ate.

I can't say too much right now. I'm shivering and the night is slowly closing in. Went busking tonight and then caught the first 20 minutes of the goonies down by the beach. I got bored and left. Walked home. Took the long way too. During busking there was this annoying mother who I swear, who only reminds me of some 18 year old. Her son loved the marimba though, got bright eyed and opened mouthed when he found out he could play them after the set. I bet that mother is really not going to be a huge part of that kids life once he figures out how to do the basics on his own.  That's about it. I lied about the mailing your letter thing acouple posts ago. I lost it and only just re-found it a couple hours ago. You'll get it sooner or later.

ps. I'm pretty sure "husband style" is going to be replacing " man blanket".  Ahhh the wonders of growing up!

the antidote was had

I've been sticking my nose into so many books lately. Just finished Jack Hodgins' The Invention of the World, which made me miss the rest of the Island badly. The whole thing is a hate/love rant for Vancouver Island and the weird people that live on it. It caps off with a good ol' wedding brawl, true love, ghosts, and an assemblage of oddballs. Perfect.
I overheard this woman on the bus talking in gossipy tones about how the riots in Vancouver were not within the nature of the people who live on this coast. Reading Jack Hodgins makes me think otherwise. He is probably the expert, anyway. The afterword speaks about how many of the readers were a little taken aback by the brawl at the end and how this blah blah blah was because of the distances and the density between people on the Island. So spread out, yet friendly that you had to holler and be outrageous if you wanted to be heard. Anyway.
Gorgeous night and my heart is a beatin' steady. More later.

Five Reasons to Punch a Dolphin in the Mouth

I love my axe. A lot.

Well, well, well. What a sunny, steep, mossy day. I have been tumbling around mountains, slipping and sliding through streams, and falling face-first into swamp. On my way up the cutline we were working on today, I came upon a drill site, which was the first time I'd actually seen one in the field. Their locations aren't secret, exactly, but they're kept pretty quiet. A little while after that, the A-Star (the luxury cadillac of helicopters) began slinging loads of drill equipment down the mountain, so that was pretty sweet.

Unfortunately, I'm having a tough time getting along with my tentmates. I don't think it's a problem with dealing with other girls; I'm generally more comfortable with girls than guys anyway. But THESE girls-sheesh. Some of the things that have been happening are pretty innapropriate, or just plain stupid, or both. Maybe I am just being impatient. I spend a lot of time in the cook tent, talking with the wonderful bull cook Sophia and eating cookies. I'll be back in Vic with the world's best recipe for bread pudding, by the way.

Do you feel like listening to club music right now? Check out Chromeo's "Don't Turn the Lights On", it's a work theme song.

It sounds like the piano from that one movie...

Not too much I can say, I have 15 minutes to waste before I head down to a quick marimba practice with carmanagh and rob. Some crazy lady thought it would be genius to have two marimbas play at her family reunion. Fun fact though, I agree with most of the band on this, the music doesnt sound right with anything less then four, and that being said, we have nothing that fits two marimbas. So tonight is going to be spent trying to figure something out.

I got a package from my penpal in israel yesterday. Halva (new favorite sweet) and chocolate wafers were the food item of the week. Plus this korean movie called "castaway on the moon" it's hilarious, I have it on my computer, so just the word and I can send it to you guys.

I leave you with the trailer, and the movie i have is english subtitled ;)

children who cry when the thunder begins

hi there friends. let me tell you a few stories.
This morning I sat on the roof of a 99 year old house in the sunshine while everyone around me passed around cigarettes and other things. I was busy watching the foot traffic on the street below. This guy and his wife were loading their bags into the back of their cream coloured jeep. This is the man that suggested we re-name our resident seagull "Lester" instead of Gilbert, which it responds to. Every morning this bird waits around until we bring it out some scraps from breakfast. Which he will dutifully swallow with one gulp and then reproduce in the more accessible form of large white splats all over the back porch before flying away screaming. This has resulted in an awkward love hate relationship that sees us girls swearing under our breath with bright clean smiles on our faces as we bring him his breakfast.
The two "men" of this b and b are Gilbert the seagull and Mr. T, the bulky rectangular shitsu multipoo (both of which words google thinks I made  up) when Marketa's son was younger he asked his mother in front of a gaggle of guests why his dog had to be a shit and a poo. In reality he is a pain in the ass. He makes these sounds with his nose that are easily comparable to those made by a pig. His diet consists mainly of cheese. He has the saddest little eyes though and everyday after his walk he races to Marketa's office at the front of the house for a little fondling. Also he is not fixed. I'll leave the rest up to your imagination.

There's a Bridge That is Burning.

Wow. What I wouldn't give right now to be scrambling through bushes and tumbling down scree with a tall dreamy-eyed geologist. Laura, you're gonna come back with battle scars I don't even know the name for.
Coincidentally, I ate tofu and brown rice "stew" for lunch. I have a feeling it was not home-made though. Probably because I bought it in a restaurant.
Last night (she said) I went to a fundraiser for Kat's friend's theater company. He does this gesture acting that is basically interpretive dance instead of dialogue and scenes and all that stuff. You really have to pay attention to the movement in order to pick up on the story line.
Sarah's new squeeze just walked in on me in the bathroom. He was pretty embarrassed. He is afraid of swimming in lakes because he doesn't know what is in them. He thinks that Vector cereal is like the best thing ever invented.
I think I am turning all city girl compared to you two. It's freaking me out.

Sorry I kissed your girlfriend

Whoa. Hello there, again. Greetings from the middle of nowhere. I`ve been shipped off to camp to recover from a sprained wrist obtained from falling down a scree slope with a heavy backpack. There are about 40 people here, living in wall tents, all doing a bunch of mining shit. There is a camp dog named Gunner and the constant whine of generators and helicopters. I`ve been alternating between surveying and working in a core shack, inputting data, fighting with Excel. That`s right, baby, I`m privy to sensitive information. Jealous? I didn`t think so.
Camp life is good so far, although there is a distinct lack of work ethic present in my new roommates. If you wear makeup every day in a mining camp, I will judge you freely and often. It`s easy to tell who`s here to make summer cash and who genuinely enjoys geology and exploration. I am actually learning a ton every day. Our main geologist is great. This morning over breakfast, he speculated that no one really needed to carry bear spray, because as long as you kept your wits about you and were able to get a good punch off on the bear`s nose, there would be no reason to worry. Speaking of breakfast, the food is ultra-gourmet. Tonight, lamb with rosemary and garlic potatoes, green beans, pasta salad, fruit tart with cinnamon and cardamon, and a lot more. Good lord.
I have been working mostly with an intense 3rd-year geo student named Oliver, who holds your gaze directly when talking. He`s hilarious, but I`m never sure if he`s exasperated with me or not. He is also 6-foot something, so keeping up while scrambling through the bush is a challenge and a half. My kingdom for a longer pair of legs.
Sarah, don`t worry about the letter, I will write you soon. A cross-country marimba band tour would be an adventure, I hope your plans come to fruition.

It's the moon, I swear.

I'm feeling funny tonight. I'll admit that. The day was slow, but weirdly productive. I woke up early and made tofu. It turned out better then predicted. My only flaw was the mold I used. It was a colander, and I'll be the first to say, I don't like weird circle tofu. I wanted it squared.

Other then that though, the sun is shining finally today. Which is I guess is gods was to put a smile on my face. I sent an email over to canada world youth and told them I wasn't doing the exchange, now all I have to do is figure out how to delete that group over facebook.  And I was looking into trying to move closer to my boyfriend and going to school eventually next year, and the year of tuition will be 7k. Holy shit. How much is it at uvic?!

I guess good news though,
Kumbana Marimba, as of friday night, is going to attempt to do a cross country tour. We have proposals being sent out in october/november to music festivals across the plate and we are going to see if we have enough to make it west to east. To say the least, Carmanagh and I are really excited about it, and are going to be the major organizers of the trip.

p.s mortimer, a reply to your snail written mail will be in the mail tomorrow morning. Laura, forgive me, but I have no clue where to send letters to.

Blonde Hair to Brown and Brown to White

let slip that  I am doing a cleanse to certain people today and they spent the next hour and a half trying to get me to eat Betty Crocker marble cake. As if.
Anyway. So far so good. Just cooked up some sockeye. Gonna eat it with a salad. Not so bad I say.
Going to see Midnight in Paris tonight. So excited. Don't know if you've seen the trailer but it looks like a helluvan adventure.
Also I've been walking to work for the past two mornings. You'd be surprised at the activity in a big city at 10 to 7 in the morning. Or maybe not, I don't know.
Anyway this morning, or today, was this girl I work with's room-mate's birthday so I spent a good ten minutes  super-gluing porn to a champagne bottle. As overseen by my boss.

I'll be lucky if I last five days.

Listening to Battles. Laying half under my bed. Had the most spirit caving day at work today. Imagine making and serving 24 grumpy foreigners breakfast with one other person. No minions to serve the coffee and butter the toast. Imagine if one of these was a new mother who expected you to clean out her breast-milk sippy cup for her. And put this in the microwave for 66 seconds only, please. And how come OUR room doesn't have a towel rack. Ok rant out of the way, positive time.
I convinced Brett last night that he should be an architect. Makes sense really. Puts all of his skills to use. And now he can stop bemoaning the waste of his talents. I made breakfast like a race car driver this morning. My fingers a-flying like some mad breakfast ninja, like I was pulling that shit out of my pockets. And Kat and Sabo are both back, the estrogen is a flowing baby.

It's coming down.

Yup it's raining. And the tourists are holding me directly responsible. Yesterday a table of six (3 couples) made best friends over breakfast. It was really nice to see. They were literally laughing so loud that we couldn't hear each other in the kitchen. Usually it goes the other way.
I just washed dishes for an hour. My hands are unrecognizable.
And tomorrow I am starting a liver cleanse that is "bound to change my life." It's just because lately I've been sluggish and zitty and we all know what that is about. So if I am on here whinging about carrot juice snacks and my desperate needs for slices of chocolate cake you are welcome to barge in here and give me a good ol' punch in the kisser. I'm so super serious. I hate it when people complain about things that they are doing to themselves. Also I hate it when tourists take pictures of our war memorials, especially if they were on the other side of the war, Just Plain Stupid. I don't go downtown a lot.
I left my library card at the library yesterday. I have to go get it. Also thinking of getting a haircut. Since my hair is getting in the way of my lifestyle.
Shark. I think this is a better  house for your way of life. Har dee har har

I like it.

I don't know about where you two are, but the rain is coming down hard. All last night it did. I finally gave in around 3:30-4h00 to just end up eating all bran miniwheats and giving into my headache a rest. It was loud, my room is all class and glass. I guess it worked out though, I went on facebook around 6:30 and discovered that my roommate from last year was online, and kicking it. We talked for a good hour and caught up the best we could. Mortimer and Laura, it's still raining.

There Will Be Snacks

Wooooooeeeee. Wrote two long letters today. Gotta send them off tomorrow. Also received a few things in the mail: LAURA. I love all of it.
Anyway. Not a whole lot new around these parts. Got swindled into going to the "Pride" fest yesterday afternoon by my boss and this other girl I work with. Apparently that automatically calls for wearing neon coloured wigs (mine was pink). As we were trying them on in the kitchen this German boy travelling with his parents wandered in, stared at us for a bit, then wandered out. Saw a drag queen singing the drag version of "Red Neck Woman" as sung by that annoying woman. (Let me hear a big HEEEEeeeeeeeeeey! from the drag  queen girls like me) Also saw Will there, decked out in his most professional pinks, sipping a Sleemans in the beer garden.
I've been staying up too late lately and my brain is starting to crumble as a result. Tonight: hot chocolate and movies in bed.

That's dj mehdi's wife uknow?

I'm mostly posting this picture as introduction, because I was strolling through fffound.com, looking for something impressive to find to add class to this blog and I came across this. It's either mehdi's wife, "fafi" ( some supermodel turned graffi artist within the ed banger circle) or some girl who is desperatly trying to be her. Either way it comes down to two things, first! this http://www.hypebeast.com/image/2008/10/koralie-fafi-brooklyn.jpg and http://takeoffyourcool.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/fafi_en_mexico_by_graffmx.jpg?w=300&h=400 looks really nice, and shorts like that is just cutting it way too close to the bum. The shoes make it worst.

Anyways the last week went by fast, we did marimba at the market and then the lovely city of parksville was throwing a movie bash and the movie Rio was playing, it was cute and I got to eat some really good taco pizza during it. Bad band news though, apparently the harddrive that held the many hours of us recording was dropped and everyone is in chaos. Good news though! The band has a bio on the harmony arts festival! sweet balls! http://harmonyarts.ca/ Take care girls!

She's Heard It On Cassette

Hi. Got back from Calgary on Sunday. Worked Monday. Worked Tuesday. Worked Wednesday. I think we are making fish for dinner though. And Kat's got this big shiny idea about making little goals/daily tasks for each other just to make life interesting. It could be cool to put them on here too, share that around a bit, like. But that would mean writing on here everyday- which I just can't guaranty, son. I've already been compared to a dead-beat Dad once in my life, thanks.
Would you like to hear what I am drinking? I will tell you: a refreshing blend of stolen mint leaves, half a lime, diced, and tonic water. I also added a tablespoon of sugar to help this medicine go down. It's basically a lazy man's mojito- I have no intention of standing up to walk the block to the liquor store.
