It sounds like the piano from that one movie...

Not too much I can say, I have 15 minutes to waste before I head down to a quick marimba practice with carmanagh and rob. Some crazy lady thought it would be genius to have two marimbas play at her family reunion. Fun fact though, I agree with most of the band on this, the music doesnt sound right with anything less then four, and that being said, we have nothing that fits two marimbas. So tonight is going to be spent trying to figure something out.

I got a package from my penpal in israel yesterday. Halva (new favorite sweet) and chocolate wafers were the food item of the week. Plus this korean movie called "castaway on the moon" it's hilarious, I have it on my computer, so just the word and I can send it to you guys.

I leave you with the trailer, and the movie i have is english subtitled ;)

children who cry when the thunder begins

hi there friends. let me tell you a few stories.
This morning I sat on the roof of a 99 year old house in the sunshine while everyone around me passed around cigarettes and other things. I was busy watching the foot traffic on the street below. This guy and his wife were loading their bags into the back of their cream coloured jeep. This is the man that suggested we re-name our resident seagull "Lester" instead of Gilbert, which it responds to. Every morning this bird waits around until we bring it out some scraps from breakfast. Which he will dutifully swallow with one gulp and then reproduce in the more accessible form of large white splats all over the back porch before flying away screaming. This has resulted in an awkward love hate relationship that sees us girls swearing under our breath with bright clean smiles on our faces as we bring him his breakfast.
The two "men" of this b and b are Gilbert the seagull and Mr. T, the bulky rectangular shitsu multipoo (both of which words google thinks I made  up) when Marketa's son was younger he asked his mother in front of a gaggle of guests why his dog had to be a shit and a poo. In reality he is a pain in the ass. He makes these sounds with his nose that are easily comparable to those made by a pig. His diet consists mainly of cheese. He has the saddest little eyes though and everyday after his walk he races to Marketa's office at the front of the house for a little fondling. Also he is not fixed. I'll leave the rest up to your imagination.

There's a Bridge That is Burning.

Wow. What I wouldn't give right now to be scrambling through bushes and tumbling down scree with a tall dreamy-eyed geologist. Laura, you're gonna come back with battle scars I don't even know the name for.
Coincidentally, I ate tofu and brown rice "stew" for lunch. I have a feeling it was not home-made though. Probably because I bought it in a restaurant.
Last night (she said) I went to a fundraiser for Kat's friend's theater company. He does this gesture acting that is basically interpretive dance instead of dialogue and scenes and all that stuff. You really have to pay attention to the movement in order to pick up on the story line.
Sarah's new squeeze just walked in on me in the bathroom. He was pretty embarrassed. He is afraid of swimming in lakes because he doesn't know what is in them. He thinks that Vector cereal is like the best thing ever invented.
I think I am turning all city girl compared to you two. It's freaking me out.

Sorry I kissed your girlfriend

Whoa. Hello there, again. Greetings from the middle of nowhere. I`ve been shipped off to camp to recover from a sprained wrist obtained from falling down a scree slope with a heavy backpack. There are about 40 people here, living in wall tents, all doing a bunch of mining shit. There is a camp dog named Gunner and the constant whine of generators and helicopters. I`ve been alternating between surveying and working in a core shack, inputting data, fighting with Excel. That`s right, baby, I`m privy to sensitive information. Jealous? I didn`t think so.
Camp life is good so far, although there is a distinct lack of work ethic present in my new roommates. If you wear makeup every day in a mining camp, I will judge you freely and often. It`s easy to tell who`s here to make summer cash and who genuinely enjoys geology and exploration. I am actually learning a ton every day. Our main geologist is great. This morning over breakfast, he speculated that no one really needed to carry bear spray, because as long as you kept your wits about you and were able to get a good punch off on the bear`s nose, there would be no reason to worry. Speaking of breakfast, the food is ultra-gourmet. Tonight, lamb with rosemary and garlic potatoes, green beans, pasta salad, fruit tart with cinnamon and cardamon, and a lot more. Good lord.
I have been working mostly with an intense 3rd-year geo student named Oliver, who holds your gaze directly when talking. He`s hilarious, but I`m never sure if he`s exasperated with me or not. He is also 6-foot something, so keeping up while scrambling through the bush is a challenge and a half. My kingdom for a longer pair of legs.
Sarah, don`t worry about the letter, I will write you soon. A cross-country marimba band tour would be an adventure, I hope your plans come to fruition.

It's the moon, I swear.

I'm feeling funny tonight. I'll admit that. The day was slow, but weirdly productive. I woke up early and made tofu. It turned out better then predicted. My only flaw was the mold I used. It was a colander, and I'll be the first to say, I don't like weird circle tofu. I wanted it squared.

Other then that though, the sun is shining finally today. Which is I guess is gods was to put a smile on my face. I sent an email over to canada world youth and told them I wasn't doing the exchange, now all I have to do is figure out how to delete that group over facebook.  And I was looking into trying to move closer to my boyfriend and going to school eventually next year, and the year of tuition will be 7k. Holy shit. How much is it at uvic?!

I guess good news though,
Kumbana Marimba, as of friday night, is going to attempt to do a cross country tour. We have proposals being sent out in october/november to music festivals across the plate and we are going to see if we have enough to make it west to east. To say the least, Carmanagh and I are really excited about it, and are going to be the major organizers of the trip.

p.s mortimer, a reply to your snail written mail will be in the mail tomorrow morning. Laura, forgive me, but I have no clue where to send letters to.

Blonde Hair to Brown and Brown to White

let slip that  I am doing a cleanse to certain people today and they spent the next hour and a half trying to get me to eat Betty Crocker marble cake. As if.
Anyway. So far so good. Just cooked up some sockeye. Gonna eat it with a salad. Not so bad I say.
Going to see Midnight in Paris tonight. So excited. Don't know if you've seen the trailer but it looks like a helluvan adventure.
Also I've been walking to work for the past two mornings. You'd be surprised at the activity in a big city at 10 to 7 in the morning. Or maybe not, I don't know.
Anyway this morning, or today, was this girl I work with's room-mate's birthday so I spent a good ten minutes  super-gluing porn to a champagne bottle. As overseen by my boss.

I'll be lucky if I last five days.

Listening to Battles. Laying half under my bed. Had the most spirit caving day at work today. Imagine making and serving 24 grumpy foreigners breakfast with one other person. No minions to serve the coffee and butter the toast. Imagine if one of these was a new mother who expected you to clean out her breast-milk sippy cup for her. And put this in the microwave for 66 seconds only, please. And how come OUR room doesn't have a towel rack. Ok rant out of the way, positive time.
I convinced Brett last night that he should be an architect. Makes sense really. Puts all of his skills to use. And now he can stop bemoaning the waste of his talents. I made breakfast like a race car driver this morning. My fingers a-flying like some mad breakfast ninja, like I was pulling that shit out of my pockets. And Kat and Sabo are both back, the estrogen is a flowing baby.

It's coming down.

Yup it's raining. And the tourists are holding me directly responsible. Yesterday a table of six (3 couples) made best friends over breakfast. It was really nice to see. They were literally laughing so loud that we couldn't hear each other in the kitchen. Usually it goes the other way.
I just washed dishes for an hour. My hands are unrecognizable.
And tomorrow I am starting a liver cleanse that is "bound to change my life." It's just because lately I've been sluggish and zitty and we all know what that is about. So if I am on here whinging about carrot juice snacks and my desperate needs for slices of chocolate cake you are welcome to barge in here and give me a good ol' punch in the kisser. I'm so super serious. I hate it when people complain about things that they are doing to themselves. Also I hate it when tourists take pictures of our war memorials, especially if they were on the other side of the war, Just Plain Stupid. I don't go downtown a lot.
I left my library card at the library yesterday. I have to go get it. Also thinking of getting a haircut. Since my hair is getting in the way of my lifestyle.
Shark. I think this is a better  house for your way of life. Har dee har har

I like it.

I don't know about where you two are, but the rain is coming down hard. All last night it did. I finally gave in around 3:30-4h00 to just end up eating all bran miniwheats and giving into my headache a rest. It was loud, my room is all class and glass. I guess it worked out though, I went on facebook around 6:30 and discovered that my roommate from last year was online, and kicking it. We talked for a good hour and caught up the best we could. Mortimer and Laura, it's still raining.
