"Son, I might watch a DVD for a bit"

says my father, wondering why the whole world has rolled their eyeballs. He insists on calling everything by its proper name, thinking that this will make him look hip and with it, you know? A Modern Man. Whereas a real modern man would slur "pass the goddam remote" from a lump on the Lay-z-boy. This from a family that broke its cordless phone years ago and has to run to catch the fax machine before its third ring. (And Laura sticks out her chin and claims that where she is from, they use delivery pigeons- what the hell is a cell phone?)

Anyways. Things are a-ok here. Except my 21 year old bro just moved back in because he can't find a job and can no longer afford rent. My mum has taken this opportunity to employ him in every odd-job that has gone undone basically since we moved here. Today he washed windows.

Anyways I knitted 13 rows (73 stiches each) of a tuque today. And I looked up the lineup for The Big Time Out and promptly peed my pants. Chez: You need to come home

Everything' s Well Alright

Well tennis was good, except my arm hurts from bashing tennis balls all over the place. Turns out I have terrible aim. My mom is reorganizing the kitchen and I am putting off knitting another dish cloth. I have to make 3 for the Wednesday volunteers because they are the one who taught me the pattern and gave me the wool. Tomorrow I learn how to make hats. Are you excited? Me too.

I left the house this lunch time hour with a french boy forcing me to leave, and then yelling out the door that he was going to marry me one day, and we would have so many babies, just for the fact that we would be having sex everynight. I thought that was kindof funny, and it made me smile as a walked the long 6 minute walk back to work. That's also nice, because back in montreal, my morning comute was easily a half hour. A good 15 on the metro, and then a good 15 walked down whatever main street that was going down to notre dame hospital.

I just really like my job here mortimer, its rediculously nice. Its relaxing, and i work with the best ladies around, Shannon and Susan. Everyone says that shannon is someone that i will most likely grow up to be. Susan is new, shes from prince edward island, is the project cordinator, and is hilarious, we drove this old truck to deliver broken down printers, to this hilarious place, wherea bunch of under 24 year old guys world, in a basement, working and fixing computers. THe truck also stalled about 8 times downtown yellowknife, and then we came back to a plate of crepes each on the table, saying that this lady, daria, dropped them off, saying thank you for ecology north's involvement in the Rivers to Ocean day. I got a free tshirt and hat out of that day. And Crepes.

It's the joke, we count how many tshirts we get from each events. Total is three so far.

Yesterday was aboringinal day, Charlotte, Arturo, Camille, and i breaded 3000 fillets of fish for the free meal. And then helped out came out bannick and corn and beans. To say the least, by the time the fish was done, i was covered with white flour, because the wind for blowing hard that day, and ghosts just want to appear.

The day before yesterday, olivier and i woke up at 6.30 and smoked meat for a lunch for this cbc guy (deneze?) he's young, pretty hipster looking, did schooling in chicago, married and then came back to the great north. He came over for a long lunch, we sat at the table for a good four hours, talking about everything. It was funny.

We also worked at this palestinian dinner and got a amazing meal out of the deal, and manned bouncy castles and popcorn stations and listened to montreal inspired ska by the waterfront, downtown, by city hall.
And i saw this cool movie, "Reel Injun", it was the cinema politica's choice for the night, and the director of the movie was there. It's actually a wicked moviel. You should see it.

It's busy here lady, plus to add to the mix, i've been reading through buckets of cooking books, and came along a new lover to add to the mix. David Chang.

Nothing new with that though.
Hope the tennis was fun.
Love you, and will love you while listening to norah roberts and nicki minaj.
ps. nearly done your post card

Or Else Spend Your Days Biting Your Own Neck

HI. I have just woken up and made myself the biggest tuna sandwich you could ever imagine. Like literally I can still feel sticky tomato/banana pepper juice rolling down my arm. Someone just knocked on the door super loudly and I didn't go see who it was because I am not at all dresses and it sounded like the gestapo anyway, something I do not want to face smelling of fish.
Brett and I have a tennis rendez-vous this apres midi. Honhon

Hey you,
Wicked shit you sending me shit. I hope to eventually get it. This week, i'm house managing with Olivier, this french boy with a amazing beard. We made sushi, salad rolls, gyoza and sugar pie for dinner tonight. And tommrow? Yam and roasted garlic soup with spanikopita, but i'm in charge of that, because i'm trying to suck up, because i made him come do presentations about the danger of water botttles, and i need his french flare.
So how are you? I still need to mail you that postcard. I sent my mom a letter by post the other day, i don't know what i didnt do the same for you.
Ive been reading keats poetry lately, and getting eating by moskitos and watching house boats float by. I also, as a result of peeing my pants out of laughter, have made John Keats a facebook account. Turns out i wasn't that oringinal, turns out 400 kids have also done the same thing as me.
I've also been addicted to the barefoot contessa.
Love you forever, and i'll talk to yo' soon.
Btw, basia bulat is playing at the folk fest here, and i get to volunteer! Whaaaooo

We'll Be Blind and Dumb Until We Fall Asleep

I made that avacado cake from Joy the Baker and now my entire body reaks like avacado shit. Or as Joss's aunt says: evocadoo. Har.

Anyways a little disapointed with the turn out because the avacados I got weren't ripe at all so the icing has little hard chunks in it, on top of running out of icing sugar. I tried using honey and corn starch, I'll let you know how it goes, prolly not so good

Speaking of letting people know how things go, I am going out tonight (not sure where yet- it's all kind of vague) with our friend Cartier and our two other male besties. Cartier has made the suggestion that we kick back with a few cases (!!!!!) of beer. I could not make this stuff up. So we'll see. I'm a little nervous to see Mr. Right-and-Good with a drink in his hand, it could just be hilarious.

My mum told Jean that I knit dish towels and she was a little amused. She said something along the lines of "we should teach her how to make something better"

Whatever man.

and that sign is from Uvic.har

Stalking your Mom

So I am still at Laura's mansion in the woods, waiting for Billy to get here annnnd. I bought new shoes today, which is ace because whenever I went outside my feet would get soaked. I actually had to borrow socks from the store because mine were cold and smelly and sopping. And Kristen was just here which was funny because she is really into the freedom of animals etc and Laura has this rabbit (Fred) that she stole from Uvic in a cage near the front door. And I may or may not have let slip that L. is planning on butchering him and eating him soonish. So she had a waterfall of opiniated cackles to go for that one.

I kind of feel like I am turning into Olivia a bit, you know, but I will write you a whole message about it later. This is a tad too public, while at the same time I feel like we are the only too that read it

I still think smoking is gross. And i was reminded of that last night, while watching American history x, and the Inuit man staying with us, reaked of it. And I'm like " Hey..I just don't like this".
Rain is something i wish would come here, it looks like its going to rain today, but i bet god knows it won't and that will be that. I miss the lush green of the island and people who i love. But its alright, because i'm 400 and something km from the arctic circle. Oh and they killed a bear here yesterday, a four year old black bear, i didn't actually see it go down, but a fat bus driver told us.

I think im going to go to the library after work and find a dvd and book to take out. And i also want to learn to make dish clothes. Maybe you can teach me? Maybe you can show me?

One day defiantly. I am so bored right now. Work today, and where i am still at, is just a bleh, i'm stuck here for another hour and being shoeless (they are on the other end of the room) is just not helping the time going faster. So i'm listening to hypem, drawing pictures, copying vegan recipes and wonder if it really would be that hard to learn piano. I guess it wouldnt be, i just need a constant instrument to be there, so even in the late hours of the night, it's there, waiting for me to practice and create. I jealous that you have taken piano lessons.

Thank God It's Fatal

Heya. Yeah the Arctic sounds sweet. Doug is prolly distantly related to me. Then again YOU'RE prolly distantly related to me. HA. Did I tell you that at Uni last year I met a girl who was Zoola's third cousin or something. She had the same last name as Jean so I was like "heeeeeey"

Anyways it's been raining here for the past two weeks or something, which sounds refreshing as the rest of the country is scorching, but really it would make life a lot easier if it were sunny or something. Ideally between the degrees of 18 and 22 C.

I finished my first dish cloth today. And I have hereby decided to knit dish cloths for everyone for Christmas, Birthdays etc etc etc. I mean, who doesn't want for a dish cloth in this day and age?
